Team Coding - View Differences using TOAD 11.6.1

I'm using TOAD 11.6.1 with Team Coding enabled and a VCS configured.

When I try to View Differences between an object and the VCS version, Toad is launching the VCS provider to perform the difference. TOAD 11.5 performed the difference inside of TOAD.

This change in functionality is causing the following change in behavior:
1) When I try to view the differences between an object open in the Editor and the VCS version, TOAD is not using the Editor version for the comparison. It is using the saved version from the working directory on the hard drive.
2) View Differences from the Team Coding Viewer is also using the saved version from the working directory on the hard drive.

Both times the View Differences launches the VCS provider to perform the difference.

This means that it order to view differences between the Database/Editor version of an object and the version in VCS, I have to save the object script to my hard drive first before being able to do the difference comparison.


TOAD 11.5 compared the Database/Editor version to the VCS version because the comparison was peformed in TOAD and not externally by the VCS provider.

Is this the intended functionality for TOAD 11.6 or is this a bug?

Is there a TOAD setting that can be changed to restore functionality as it was in TOAD 11.5?

It was designed this way, but clearly changed the functionality from 11.5. Unfortunately, there is no setting in Team Coding to implement as you described.

I have put it in to my bug list for this beta cycle. I think we could add as an option in the View Diff dialog and remember your last preference.

You say that you will "put this on our bug list for the beta cycle". What exactly does this mean? When will it be corrected?

To address Ana's question - after you participate in the beta for any length of time you'll see that the Toad dev team works their behinds off during the beta cycle to quickly address all such issues. Sometimes you may have to remind a developer about something a couple times - but all humanly possible efforts are always made to fix quickly and release asap.

Hi Stephen,

This change in the behavior of the diff logic that Jeff reported is really not nice. This practically means that you cannot get differences between two your actual changes and the VCS version any more.

You say that you will "put this on our bug list for the beta cycle". What exactly does this mean? When will it be corrected?

It was designed this way, but clearly changed the functionality from 11.5. Unfortunately, there is no setting in Team Coding to implement as you described.

I have put it in to my bug list for this beta cycle. I think we could add as an option in the View Diff dialog and remember your last preference.

I'm using TOAD 11.6.1 with Team Coding enabled and a VCS configured.

When I try to View Differences between an object and the VCS version, Toad is launching the VCS provider to perform the difference. TOAD 11.5 performed the difference inside of TOAD.

This change in functionality is causing the following change in behavior:
1) When I try to view the differences between an object open in the Editor and the VCS version, TOAD is not using the Editor version for the comparison. It is using the saved version from the working directory on the hard drive.
2) View Differences from the Team Coding Viewer is also using the saved version from the working directory on the hard drive.

Both times the View Differences launches the VCS provider to perform the difference.

This means that it order to view differences between the Database/Editor version of an object and the version in VCS, I have to save the object script to my hard drive first before being able to do the difference comparison.

TOAD 11.5 compared the Database/Editor version to the VCS version because the comparison was peformed in TOAD and not externally by the VCS provider.

Is this the intended functionality for TOAD 11.6 or is this a bug?

Is there a TOAD setting that can be changed to restore functionality as it was in TOAD 11.5?
